Cost: Over 1,000 human casualties
Major Concerns: Swarming and stinging aggressively.
26 Killer Bees, or the Africanized bees, were accidentally released into the wild in Brazil in the 1950s. They quickly interbreed with native bees and began moving northward towards the U.S. On the way, scientists estimated that they were responsible for over 1,000 deaths.
Africanized bees are more aggressive and far more defensive than other bees, so it takes little to provoke them. In Las Vegas, one elderly man was stung thirty times, and later a woman was stung 500 times, but both remarkably survived.
While they do a some harm, bees could also be considered Beneficial Animals.
