Major Contribution: Controlling insect populations.

Frogs can be found most places, and we are all better off for it. They fascinate us as children, sometimes serve as food, and even help us understand biology. But their greatest benefit is in the ecosystem. Here they help hold the delicate balance of nature. They eat large amounts of insects, and with the exception of bullfrogs, rarely eat anything we would favor. Some claim frogs eat a total of 4800 insects in a year, which is considerable, especially in large wetland areas, where insect populations could potentially run wild.

1. Some frog species actually reach back 190 million years.

2. The record for longest frog leap is 17.5 feet.
