The Jacobson’s organ is what the snake uses to taste and smell.<br<br> When a garter snake uses their Jacobson’s organ, they stick out their tongue and then touch it to the organ.<br<br>If you have ever seen snakes sticking their tongues out, this is probably what they are doing.
